  • - The 14 million pesos investment includes opening a new collection center in Los Cabos, which, along with the existing facility in La Paz, will have a combined capacity to collect 110 tons of PET per month, creating over a thousand indirect jobs in Baja California Sur.
  • - Thanks to the partnership with Baja Ferries, each trip transports over 1 million bottles, reducing CO2 emissions by 3.7 tons and saving nearly 3,900 kilometers of travel per delivery.

Los Cabos, Baja California Sur - October 30, 2024 - Arca Continental and PetStar announced a 14 million pesos investment to expand PET collection and recycling capacity in Baja California Sur with the opening of a new PET collection center in Los Cabos. This new facility, located on Leona Vicario Avenue in Cabo San Lucas, joins the existing center in La Paz, allowing for a total monthly capacity of 110 tons of PET, equivalent to 5 million bottles.

This initiative will also support the creation of a thousand indirect jobs, benefiting urban collectors and around 50 small local recovery businesses.

At the inauguration ceremony, Alberto de la Garza, Arca Continental Mexico’s Pacific Region Director, highlighted,"At Arca Continental, our sustainable business model seeks to create positive impacts on the environment and communities. The opening of the Los Cabos collection center strengthens our commitment to recycling culture, creating shared value and economic opportunities."

The PET collected in Los Cabos and La Paz will be shipped by sea to the PetStar Mazatlán Collection Plant, where it will be sorted for proper recycling. This transport of over one million bottles per trip is more efficient, as it prevents 3.7 tons of CO2 emissions, while also saving 3,900 kilometers of travel per delivery.

Carlos Mendieta, PetStar’s Director of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability, stated, “Today, we take another step by opening our second collection center in the ‘Los Cabos’ region, reaffirming our commitment to a #WorldWithoutWaste by creating +social, environmental, and economic value in recycling, inspiring more people to dispose of their PET bottles correctly as part of a circular economy.”

During his remarks, Arnoldo Alberto Rentería Santana, General Secretary of Los Cabos, expressed gratitude for the efforts of all parties involved, noting that this collection center will help prevent more plastic waste from reaching beaches and other key tourist sites in the municipality.

With this new investment, Arca Continental and Coca-Cola Mexico reaffirm their commitment to PET recovery, currently recycling 7 out of every 10 bottles they put on the market, creating value for the communities where they operate, and making a positive difference for the environment.
