Mexicali, Baja California – December 2, 2024.   At an event held in collaboration with state and municipal authorities, Arca Continental, one of Coca-Cola’s largest bottlers worldwide, and the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC) inaugurated an artificial wetland in "Ciudad Guadalupe Victoria," Baja California. This project, designed to clean 70 liters of water per second, will process municipal wastewater for reuse in productive activities like agricultural irrigation, enhancing water security for the Mexicali Valley and its 28,000+ inhabitants.

With an investment of 48 million pesos, Arca Continental and the IMCC developed this unique project with technical support from Pronatura México and Pronatura Noreste. The wetland, inspired by natural processes, uses substrates and plants that form phytodepurators—plants that purify wastewater—reducing maintenance costs and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Attendees at the event included: Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Governor of Baja California, José Armando Fernández Samaniego, Federal Deputy for Baja California's District 7, Víctor Daniel Amador, Secretary of Water Management, Sanitation, and Protection in Baja California, Armando Carrazco López, Director of the State Commission for Public Services of Mexicali (CESPM), Jorge H. Santos Reyna, Chairman of the Board of Arca Continental, José Borda Noriega, Executive Director of Arca Continental México, Patricio Caso, Vice President of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability for Coca-Cola México, Daniela López Acosta, Operations Director of Pronatura Noroeste.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stated, “We can see that when the private sector, civil society organizations, and government join forces, we can contribute much more to improving the living conditions of residents, especially those in the Mexicali Valley, who have so many needs and for whom we care deeply.”

  • The Mexican Coca-Cola Industry has invested over 120 million pesos in the construction of three artificial wetlands in Mexico, two of which are located within Arca Continental's territory. These initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to creating value in the communities where it operates and making a positive impact.
  • Jorge H. Santos Reyna, Chairman of the Board of Arca Continental, added, “Since our inception, Arca Continental has been committed to operating a sustainable business model that generates value for everyone in our community. The launch of this second wetland in the country reaffirms our commitment to environmental sustainability.”
  •
Through this initiative, Arca Continental not only supports water sustainability but also promotes the development of a community nursery and a productive project managed by local residents, establishing an essential refuge for migratory birds and creating an environmental and social impact space for the region.
