  • San Luis Potosí, SLP – April 10, 2025. Arca Continental, one of Coca-Cola’s largest bottlers worldwide, together with Coca-Cola Mexico and PetStar, inaugurated the expansion of their PET bottle Collection Plant in San Luis Potosí. This MXN 56.5 million investment reaffirms their commitment to packaging recycling and circularity.

  • Thanks to this expansion, the plant will be able to recover more than 380 million PET bottles annually. These will be processed by PetStar—the world’s largest food-grade PET recycling plant led by Arca Continental, Coca-Cola Mexico, and other bottlers—and incorporated by Arca Continental into new packaging.

  • During the inauguration ceremony, Jesús Salvador González Martínez, Secretary of Economic Development for the State of San Luis Potosí, highlighted the importance of this initiative for sustainable development: "We must recognize that PET recycling generates value chains with a significant positive impact across multiple sectors. (...) This is a great example of how public and private investment can come together to deliver outstanding results. On behalf of the State Government of SLP, we appreciate the goodwill in building this strong alliance and, above all, congratulate Arca Continental and PetStar for this remarkable project."

  • Juan Carlos Barrera, Regional Director for Western Mexico at Arca Continental, stated:
  • "At Arca Continental, as part of the Coca-Cola system, we are convinced that operating a sustainable business model drives our growth and generates shared value in the communities where we operate. This plant expansion is a testament to our commitment to strengthening the PET bottle recycling chain and making a positive difference."

  • Carlos Mendieta, Director of Sustainability, Communications, and Corporate Affairs at PetStar, emphasized: "In 2003, PetStar arrived in San Luis Potosí with a Collection Plant to begin collecting millions of bottles. This 2025 marks a milestone as we double its capacity within PetStar's 30th Anniversary, with a continued commitment to generating +value—social, environmental, and economic—for communities, Mexico, and the planet."

  • Since 2011, Arca Continental and Coca-Cola Mexico have driven a strategy to strengthen the PET bottle circular economy in the country through PetStar, their recycling plant. It has increased its capacity yearly and in 2024 recovered over 5.5 billion bottles annually—enough to fill the Alfonso Lastras Stadium in San Luis more than 13 times.

  • The San Luis Potosí plant currentlyemploys 143 people, with 40% female representation. It is part of a network of collection centers supplying material to the recycling plant in Toluca, State of Mexico.
  • This investment by Arca Continental, Coca-Cola Mexico, and other PetStar shareholder bottlers reaffirms the Coca-Cola system’s commitment to a sustainable business model.

  • Through PetStar, Arca Continental recovers 7 out of every 10 bottles it puts on the market, allowing the company to incorporate an average of 30.3% recycled resin into its PET packaging—placing it among the industry’s leading companies.
